Orig­i­nal­ly from Essex, Dan Watt (D.L.W) relo­cat­ed to Mar­gate a year ago, drawn by a desire to be clos­er to the sea and to ground them­selves in a new sense of home. This tran­si­tion became the cat­a­lyst for a dai­ly prac­tice: 365 draw­ings made over the course of a year. Each draw­ing depicts an item found on the beach and then returned to the sea, engag­ing in a qui­et cycle of atten­tion, care, and release.

Cre­at­ed for NEUSE­ANCE — a title that folds togeth­er nui­sance, séance, and sea. The work reflects a per­sis­tent dia­logue with place, rit­u­al, and rep­e­ti­tion. Through dai­ly acts of draw­ing and return­ing, the artist traces an ongo­ing process of set­tling, attun­ing to Margate’s shore­line, and find­ing sta­bil­i­ty through making.
