Seven Pieces: An Experiential Dinner with Manami Kakudo (Live)

In partnership with Modja Modja House

About this event

An intimate evening of food and live composition as renowned Japanese percussionist and composer Manami Kakudo (live) makes a rare UK appearance, joining head chef Jackson Berg at Faith In Strangers. Her visit marks a special moment for British audiences — an opportunity to experience one of Japan’s most distinctive contemporary voices in an unusually close and personal setting.

Fresh from major performances with full orchestras across Japan, Kakudo is in the UK for a brief visit. During her stay, she is artist-in-residence at Modja Modja House, where she will create a new body of percussive work inspired by the surroundings, the town, and the rhythm of daily life. For this rare appearance in Margate, she performs seven of these original compositions — each following a dish — forming a sequence of flavour and sound, plated and performed in rhythm. Not background music, but a shared sensory experience.

The menu has been created exclusively for this event by Jackson Berg — formerly of St. John, Bistrotheque, and The Goods Shed, and now head chef at Faith In Strangers — known for his restrained, elegant cooking. Each piece is served as part of a refined tasting menu, with individual plates presented to guests seated together around a single communal table. You’ll dine among fellow strangers, gathered in shared presence — a quiet nod to the name, and to the act of placing faith in unfamiliar company.

A menu drawn from coastal memory and nostalgic fragments, served within the privately held venue for one special evening only. Just a handful of seats are available.
