DJ Food: Live A/V Show

On Sat­ur­day the 2^nd of August, audi­ble cura­tion spe­cial­ists, Bahn­hof, are back with a bang, host­ing a very spe­cial night down on the coast.

DJ Food (aka Strict­ly Kev), will be bless­ing the eyes and ears of those present, with an A/V set, inspired by the music of Boards of Canada. 

Orig­i­nal­ly con­ceived dur­ing the pan­dem­ic in 2020, this set has been played only a hand­ful of times at fes­ti­vals and a few spe­cial events.

Strict­ly Kev was an inte­gral part to the gold­en era of the much loved record label Nin­ja Tunes, pro­vid­ing the label with many of their most beau­ti­ful designs, and releas­ing his own pro­duc­tions under the DJ Food moniker. His pro­duc­tions have been remixed by Square­push­er, Autechre, Luke Vib­ert to name but a few. 

Kev was also the co-founder of the leg­endary Tele­path­ic Fish par­ties that he start­ed putting on in the 90s with Mira Cal­ix, Mario Aguera and David Val­lade. Whilst spin­ning records at these par­ties would be (soon to be) musi­cal leg­ends such as Aphex Twin and Mix­mas­ter Morris. 

Sup­port­ing will be Mar­gate’s Ben Sun — Ben makes records with groovy labels like Razor-N-Tape, Phon­i­ca and Cyphon. He’s an intre­pid fre­quen­cy explor­er and col­lec­tor of fine music — and he’ll be bring­ing his lush Con­de­sa, for the most plea­sur­able aur­al experience.

This spe­cial set will begin just after sun­set. Come watch it with us. Get some food before the event starts — it would be rude not to… for the occa­sion, of course.

Bahn­hof is the live arm of the exper­i­men­tal label run by Stu­art Met­calfe, called Rail Cables- which fea­tured artists from all over the world cre­at­ing music inspired by train travel. 

The nights start­ed in Glas­gow in 2015, with acts play­ing sets on the top floor of The Old Hair­dressers. Speak­ers were placed around the rest of the venue play­ing immer­sive sound art and actors would float amongst the crowd, adding to the sur­re­al nature of the evenings. 

These nights con­tin­ued in Lan­cast­er in 2020, in the short lived but won­der­ful venue, The Sham­bles, this time with a selec­tion of cir­cus enter­tain­ers accom­pa­ny­ing each night. 

Now in 2025, it is Mar­gate which plays host to the Bahn­hof nights. Each incar­na­tion of Bahn­hof is its own liv­ing breath­ing strange beau­ti­ful thing, depend­ing on the cre­ative peo­ple who are will­ing to get involved along every new chapter.
